Exploring the World Through Art

Sunday at the LouvreMy paintings show people in all their wonderful diversity. People at work or at leisure, alone or connected to others.

One of my favorite themes involves the people encountered in art museums. Some of these are looking at, or perhaps ignoring, works of art. Others are providing maintenance or security. My museum paintings also show human figures that are painted on canvas, cast in bronze, or carved from marble.

For many years I have photographed in the United States and Europe, and those photos serve as a point of departure for my paintings.

With camera in hand, I look around to capture images of a given moment in time and place. Later, with brushes and paint, I remember and enlarge that moment, reflecting upon the people encountered, the artwork viewed, the place visited, and the joys and hopes experienced.
