Exploring the World Through Art

Sunday at the LouvreFor many years I have photographed in the U.S. and Europe, and these photographs serve as a point of departure for my oil paintings.

I especially enjoy painting people in all their marvelous diversity, and one of my themes involves people encountered in museums. Some of these people are looking at art; some are providing security or maintenance. Some are carved of marble, cast in bronze, or painted on canvas.

As part of my creative process, I try to develop a deeper understanding of each painter or sculptor whose work I depict. I also imagine stories about the modern people who appear in my paintings.
